Digital and IT sponsorship

Software and IT jobs with visa sponsorship UK, sponsor and salary checks

Software and IT sponsorship searches cover several different occupation groups. The job title alone is not enough: check the duties, occupation code, employer sponsor licence and going rate before deciding whether a vacancy fits your search.

Key points

  • Software, cyber security, architecture, systems and DevOps roles can map to different occupation codes.
  • Check the sponsor licence and the individual vacancy separately.
  • The ordinary Skilled Worker salary rule normally uses the higher of the general threshold and the occupation going rate.
  • Direct applications reduce the risk of fake sponsorship offers and job for fee scams.

Match the duties to the occupation code

Technology employers use many overlapping titles. A software engineer, systems architect, cyber security professional and DevOps engineer may not share the same occupation code or going rate.

Start with the duties in the advert and use the occupation explorer before checking salary.

Employer licence and vacancy wording

A sponsor licence confirms an employer is licensed for the relevant route, not that every IT vacancy is sponsored.

Look for clear sponsorship wording in the advert and apply through the employer or the original job source.

Salary and going rate

GOV.UK says the usual Skilled Worker salary requirement is at least £41,700 or the occupation going rate, whichever is higher.

Some applicants and occupations can fall under different rules, so check the current official guidance for the vacancy rather than relying on one generic number.
