Engineering sponsorship
Engineering jobs with visa sponsorship UK, how to search more effectively
UK engineering sponsorship searches work best when you separate the employer check from the occupation and salary checks. Civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, production and related engineering roles can sit under different occupation codes and going rates.

Key points
- Check the employer sponsor licence before assuming a vacancy can sponsor.
- Use the occupation code that matches the actual engineering duties.
- The usual Skilled Worker salary test compares the general threshold with the occupation going rate.
- Apply directly to the employer or original job source and avoid job for fee offers.
Engineering is not one occupation code
Engineering job titles can map to different SOC 2020 occupation codes depending on the duties. Civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and production engineering should therefore be checked separately.
Use the occupation explorer to identify the likely code, then check the going rate attached to that code.
Check salary after the occupation code
For the ordinary Skilled Worker route, GOV.UK says the usual salary requirement is at least £41,700 a year or the standard going rate for the occupation, whichever is higher.
Different rules can apply in defined circumstances, so the current official rule and occupation table should be checked for the vacancy.
Use sponsor status as a filter, not a promise
A licensed engineering company may advertise both sponsored and non sponsored roles. Confirm the organisation is licensed, then read the individual vacancy and apply directly.
